Ijeoma and Emeka had their traditional wedding last weekend (Saturday, the 18th of June 2015). Their story is not only interesting, it’s actually amazing. They went from being neighbours to attending the same school twice to being lovers and now, they’re getting married.
Their Story
Emeka and I go way back. We were first neighbors when little, we attended the same elementary school; my siblings, Emeka and I all played together. We were extremely close that when he visited my house, he could walk right in and vice-versa. After elementary school, I went to a renowned Federal boarding school – FGC Jos. His family relocated and we lost contact. During my senior year in high school, my parents changed schools for me to be closer to my younger sister. Lo and behold, Emeka was also at this new school. We rekindled our friendship.
After our high school days, as life would have it, he got accepted into the Valley View University in Accra to study Human Resources Management while I got accepted into the Madonna University to study Microbiology. We completely lost contact for several years but thanks to social media, we were once again able to rekindle our friendship which eventually led into a relationship.
How He Proposed
As our traditional custom would have it, he is expected to seek my hand in marriage from my parents, which he did. I knew he was going to propose very soon but did not know exactly when it was going to happen.
On a beautiful day as God had planned it (those days when the weather just seems to be happy with you; no rain, no sun, just enough breeze to leave your skin feeling so lovely). He invited me over to his place and he cooked dinner for us (yes, I am that lucky, he knows how I enjoy eating hahahaha.)
Unbeknown to be me, I left my house to his without thinking much. We ate the delicious meal that was prepared over some wine. I turned on the TV and was watching a TV show, laughing and giggling. I turned around and noticed he was on one knee (Only God knows how long he was on his knee), he took my hands told me how much he loved me and did not see a life without me. He then asked me to be his wife and I said yes. We called families to share the news.
