‘5 Minutes with…’ is a series of short interviews with some of the esteemed vendors listed on our directory. We get to know the brilliant people behind the brands we love. Today, we meet Laykay of Laykay Sax Entertainment.
Laykay, an amazing saxophone player with over a decade’s experience on the instrument, is the Lead Creative Director at Lakeside Entertainments. The second child in a family of three, he has a degree in Animal Production and health from the University of Agriculture Abeokuta. He started learning to play the saxophone in his first year in school and has proficiently mastered the art over the years, from playing the instrument to creating moments.
My brand in three words… Creative, exciting and engaging
The part of my Job that I love most… That very moment a client I just serviced enthusiastically appreciates what I did and also make referrals.
Biggest accomplishment so far… Featuring in a musical project that made the Guinness book of records.
Best Vendor I have worked with… Image Faculty, his creativity amazes me
The quality every Nigerian vendor must have… Great customer relations
What I do in my spare time? There’s no timetable or specific order though, I like reading, rehearsing thinking of new ways to thrill the next set of clients, cooking and possibly seeing a movie.
Interesting fact about me… My quiet and naive face is a set up, don’t fall for it.
Songs on replay… I have a voracious music appetite with almost 20 gigs of music on my phone alone I’ll just mention a few songs that I must listen to per day.
- Wombolobo – Angelique Kidjo
- Bailamos – Enrique
- There goes my baby – Usher Raymond
What books are you currently reading? Interestingly, I am reading about three books right now, there is an allotted time for each per day.
- Scorpio Illusion – Robert Ludlum
- God is a sales man – Mark Stevens
- Following God’s plan for your life – Kenneth E Hagin
Call or text… Any goes for me.. My phone is always on vibration so there is no fear of intrusion. But calls first.
Cook or be cooked for… Any would go for me. I’d most likely be with the person in the kitchen if someone else is cooking.
Favourite food… Now I am hungry again. I am a fan of rice and peppery stew with plenty of fish – dried, fresh, etc. and forget not my iru. (Locust beans). P.S. The pepper must be diced.
Ideal holiday destination… Rio
Three guests for dinner… I have never thought about this before,
- Kenny G (he inspires me on the saxophone and also his success and understanding of his listeners)
- Mr Ubong King (He is a successful business man that I respect, would just want to be inspired on a one on one basis)
- Oprah Winfrey (Her influence is overwhelming and I’ll have a lot to learn over dinner)
