“Genotype should not stand in the way of love” – Patrick Doyle

Nollywood actor and broadcaster, Patrick Doyle shared his thoughts on sickle cell anaemia in a recent interview with PlusTV Africa’s ‘Tea Time‘ show. He said;

What everybody wants to hear is ‘No, check your genotype.’ Please, by all means, check your genotype. By all means, do whatever… but if you’re in love with somebody that has a genotype … go ahead and marry that person because there is technology now that can eliminate the possibility of transmitting sickle cell to your children. I wasn’t that lucky; it didn’t exist in my time but I’m just saying genotype should not stand in the way of love.

The actor lost his first wife and his teenage son to sickle cell anaemia. Watch the interview below;
