Event planner and CEO of Nidel Events, Nkem got married to Uche recently. Speaking about the wedding, the DIY bride, Nkem shared;
I’m an event planner and the CEO of Nidel Events (@nidelevents) so like most girls that already know what they want for their wedding, I also knew how to make it happen. I wanted a romantic yet fun wedding.
We picked dates and I started planning immediately. I guess it was easy for me because I have done this with several other clients this time, I was just the client and the planner.
My company prides itself in being very detailed and giving clients the most remarkable event so I wasn’t going to have any less for myself. The wedding was lots of fun and had a romantic atmosphere, which what I always wanted.
We caught up with the couple, who shared their love story and photos from their pre-wedding shoot, traditional and white wedding.
Enjoy!
Our story
We met through a mutual friend. I was still in the university when I kept getting this particular request on BBM constantly. No matter how many times I declined, it kept popping back up. One day, I got a call from this mutual friend of ours saying he gave my contact to his friend that asked (lol, really?!). So I asked for the name of this friend and it turned out to be the same person that had been sending me all those requests on BBM. I still wasn’t budging though but this friend was persistent so I accepted.
We started chatting and hanging out but oh! was I sure I wasn’t going to fall for this guy ? We went on like that for three years, even after he had made his intentions known, we were seeing more often, talking every minute; I was just very stubborn about it lol. Anyways, I think what finally broke the ice was his effortless show of affection all through the years, care and love now & even when he wasn’t sure I’d ever be his.
The Proposal
It was our second year anniversary (yeah finally, lol) and he had asked me out on a date. Not the “Oya dress up let’s go out” kind lol.. the “would you like to go on a date with me” kind (yeah, I like mushy stuff). The first one had been a cozy indoor romantic type so I was really excited about this one.
Anyways he wouldn’t tell me where we were going to so he drove in and out of places (dramatic right lol) then we got to this place and I was already like please where are you taking me to lol. We parked the car and he led me upstairs. Of course, I already suspected a proposal was coming so when I stepped out of the elevator and into the dining area and didn’t see any familiar face, I just decided to forget it and enjoy my date but he wasn’t going to make it that easy for me lol.
He excused himself and came back to tell me about this lovely view outside that would be great for pictures. We walked out to the outdoor lounge of the hotel and there they were! My brother, my best friend, his siblings and friends lol… you have to understand how shocked I was. I had overeaten at that time and my tummy was bulging out ? because I thought there was no proposal and then to now find out there was one! I almost threw myself down the building ?. I went to hug them then turned back to hug someone else and he was on one knee already lol. It was all just too sweet… I said yes and I’m happy I did.
