Some love stories begin with grand gestures. Ours began with a pair of shoes.
In 2014, neither of us knew that a chance encounter at a graduation party would change the course of our lives forever. In fact, I wasn’t even supposed to be there. I had only accompanied a friend to the event, but as fate—and God—would have it, that decision would introduce me to the woman who would become my wife.
The first words she ever said to me were, “Nice shoes.”
To this day, she insists it was only my shoes she liked. I still maintain that it was much more than that.
At first, she wasn’t exactly the easiest person to get close to. Through a mutual friend, I tried to get to know her better, but she was reserved, cautious, and perhaps a little stubborn. Yet something about her drew me in. I couldn’t quite explain it then, but I knew I wanted to know more about the woman behind that calm and unreadable expression.
As the weeks turned into months, friendship began to blossom.
What started as occasional conversations became daily phone calls. We could talk endlessly without running out of things to say. Before long, I realized that a day didn’t feel complete without hearing her voice. She was kind, caring, funny, intelligent, relatable, and someone I could share every part of myself with.
By October 2014, something had changed.
She never formally told me how she felt, but her actions spoke louder than words ever could. In her presence, I found a friendship unlike any other and a connection that felt effortless and genuine. Somewhere between those daily conversations and countless shared moments, friendship quietly became love.
Around that same time, I had been praying earnestly about my future. Having recently come out of a difficult and overwhelming relationship, I wanted God’s direction concerning the person I would spend the rest of my life with.
The answer came with peace.
The more I got to know her, the more certain I became. She fit naturally into my world. She connected effortlessly with my family, my siblings, my friends, and most importantly, with my heart. There was a confidence and assurance in my spirit that she was the woman God had prepared for me.
Like every real love story, ours wasn’t without challenges.
There were moments that tested us, moments that required patience, grace, understanding, and commitment. Yet through it all, she never gave up on us. She stood by me with remarkable strength and unwavering faith. Her loyalty, resilience, and belief in what we shared became one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.

On May 31, 2016, we made it official.
Our registry wedding was simple, intimate, joyful, and filled with family, friends, laughter, food, and celebration. It wasn’t elaborate, but it was perfect for us. More importantly, it marked the beginning of the life we were building together.
Ten years later, by God’s grace, that life has grown into something far more beautiful than we could have imagined.
We have been blessed with two wonderful children, Olaolukakiitan Adedeji and Oluwadarasimi, Abisola who have become some of the greatest joys of our lives. Together, we have learned the value of friendship, communication, sacrifice, faith, patience, and intentional love. We have learned that marriage is not merely a destination but a daily commitment to choose each other, serve each other, and grow together.
What I admire most about my wife is how she complements me so perfectly. She fills every gap where I fall short. An hardworking, proactive, loving, selfless, intelligent, and deeply committed to our family. She balances business, motherhood, marriage, and life with grace and excellence. She is the missing piece that completes my puzzle.
And if you asked her what she admires about me, I hope she would say that I show up, that I care deeply, that I lead with love, and that I never stop trying to be the husband and father our family deserves.
This year, as we celebrated ten years of marriage, we had the privilege of doing something we had always looked forward to: our traditional wedding.
It was more than a ceremony but a celebration of culture, family, legacy, and God’s faithfulness. It was an opportunity to honor our roots and receive the blessings that come with acknowledging tradition and family.
Standing there after ten years of marriage felt surprisingly new—as though we were newlyweds all over again.
But perhaps the most beautiful part was having our children stand beside us. Our son played the saxophone, while our daughter read the acceptance letter. They weren’t simply guests at our wedding; they were part of the story we had spent a decade writing together.
As we watched them participate in a day that celebrated our love, our hearts felt full.
The decor was beautiful. The atmosphere was electric. Friends and family surrounded us with genuine love. Every detail came together perfectly. Yet beyond the beauty of the event itself, we experienced something deeper: the unmistakable presence of God guiding every step of the journey.
Looking back, it’s incredible to think that it all began with a chance meeting, a pair of shoes, and a conversation that never truly ended.
Today, after ten wonderful years, if I had to choose again, I would still choose Funmilayo—my sugar girl, my best friend, my greatest blessing, and the love of my life.
Every single time.
