Do you remember Fadekemi who got pressured into having a big wedding reception as opposed to what she wanted, no reception! This story is about her bridal assistant. She ran the market errands without anyone chasing her, attended the pre-wedding photoshoot, and on the morning of the wedding she walked into that room, helped Fadekemi into her dress and made sure she looked absolutely perfect for one of the biggest days of her life. She handled everything well and Fadekemi had absolutely no reason to think twice about her.
The wedding was beautiful, as it should be, and as the night wound down and guests started making their way out, the bridal assistant said she was going to help one of the groomsmen find a hotel, because he had come in from out of town and didn’t know the area at all.
Fadekemi thought nothing of it, seeing it as the kind of thoughtful gesture that makes a vendor stand out. Although her and Sonia noticed that the two of them seemed really close by the end of the night but the day was over, everyone was full of food and happy and tired, so nobody had the energy to read meaning into anything.
Two weeks later, Fadekemi’s husband came to her with a gist his friend gave him, you know the way men tell each other interesting things going on with them. The groomsman told him that after they found the hotel, the bridal assistant stayed over. And by the next morning she had already started planning a trip to Abuja to visit him, saying she had a cousin there she wanted to see.
And so somewhere between the market runs, the dressing room and that hotel room, Fadekemi’s bridal assistant came to do a job and walked away with a whole situationship like a parting gift.
