Story story! Once upon a time! I have been angry ever since Chinelo, one of my friends, told me what happened to her… chai!!!
This one na the definition of “men will stain your white,” you remember this slang abi. Well, no need for too much talk, you remember Chinelo nau, my light skinned, tall, beautiful lady.
I saw her incoming call on Monday evening by 8pm, after I got back from work, and I just knew there was gist. Because normally she would have been tired and gone to bed after the day’s stress, if there’s anything Chinelo likes, it’s sleep and food.
“Hello Dara, what’s up? How are you?”
“How far, I am fine… this one you called me this night, hope nothing is wrong.”
“Omooooo, Dara. You wouldn’t believe what happened to me.”
“What happened?”
Back story: Chinelo had just gotten into a relationship four months ago with a guy every lady will call “Odogwu.” He is young, rich, handsome, always going out on dates every weekend, making single girls like me shout God anytime she posts their pictures together.
Now, this is what happened. Her boyfriend’s cousin is about to get married soon, and she was initially supposed to go. She had gotten the lace, which cost ₦250,000, paid the fashion designer, which cost ₦300,000 already, and booked a makeup artist for that day. I mean, she had crossed every i and dotted every t, because it was a family wedding and it would have been her first time seeing his family, and she wanted to come correct.
Later, her boyfriend told her they had cut the guest list, and it was partners and their plus-ones. In her head she was like, okay? Are we not dating? But he goes on to tell her that his family hasn’t met her, and the wedding wouldn’t be a good place to meet because it would be rowdy. She should have clocked it there, but she just ignored it and understood.
Well, actually not. Chinelo got a text today from his sister, asking if she had gotten her dress from the designer, booked her makeup and stuff like that. She told her she wasn’t going anymore since they cut down the guest list.
Then there was silence. She didn’t get a text back for about an hour.
His sister called her afterwards and basically came clean that no one had actually been cut from the guest list. Talk about woman supporting woman! What actually happened was her boyfriend’s ex was going to be there, and he thought it would be less awkward if Chinelo just stayed home, because his ex is still pretty close with people in his family. He never told Chinelo the ex was invited, or that the ex was close with anyone from his family.
He doesn’t know she knows yet, and she asked his sister not to tell him. She is meeting him tomorrow and breaking up with him, but she doesn’t know what words to use, hence why she called me to vent and get advice. That’s sad, honestly.
But then again, why is he preventing both of them from meeting each other? If it was a good breakup, then having an ex there shouldn’t have been a problem to begin with. If it was her fault, he would have told Chinelo. So is he most likely hiding something he did wrong from her?
