By the time Kemi got home that Sunday night, her feet were aching. She had spent the weekend catering two weddings back-to-back, and from the look of things, business was doing just fine. The payments had come in, her WhatsApp was still buzzing with enquiries, and one of the brides had already recommended her to a friend.
Kemi smiled as she opened her banking app because this month had to be one of her best months yet.
But when she started going through the numbers a little more carefully, she noticed something she hadn’t paid much attention to before. She had catered more weddings than she did the same month last year, but she wasn’t sure she had actually made more money.
There were food supplies to pay for, staff wages, transportation, packaging, last-minute purchases and the cost of getting those new clients in the first place. She knew how much money had come into the business but what she didn’t know was how much it had cost her to make that money.
And that got her thinking. Was her business really growing, or was she simply getting busier?
For many wedding and event vendors, it is easy to answer questions about how much they made, how many clients they booked or how many events they handled but those numbers only tell part of the story.
The numbers that tell you where your clients are coming from, what it costs to win them, which services bring in the most profit and whether your business is actually making profit can be just as important.
That is why, for the Q4 Vendors Connect, LoveWeddingsNG is putting the spotlight on something many vendors don’t spend enough time with: data!
It isn’t only about the numbers you already have. There may be information your business should be capturing that you’re currently overlooking, as well as questions around how all that customer data is stored and protected.
Meet Our Speaker
For this conversation, we’re bringing in Sanmi Gbadegesin, Founder and CEO of MyCo, a platform that helps businesses manage their customers, bookings, payments and more in one place.
Sanmi has spent his career helping organisations across the public and private sectors implement the CRM and ERP systems they use to capture data, make sense of it and turn it into insights they can actually act on. Through MyCo, he has worked with organisations across different countries and industries, including event and wedding planning, hospitality, education and membership organisations.
His experience doesn’t stop at technology and business systems. Sanmi has also organised and managed events and hosted weddings in Nigeria and abroad, giving him a first hand understanding of the events industry and the people who work in it.
He holds an MSc with Distinction from Loughborough University, UK, has guest lectured on data analysis at Covenant University, and has also been featured on Plus TV Africa.
So when we talk about the numbers behind a wedding business, we’re not just bringing in someone who knows data. We’re bringing in someone who understands what it looks like to actually run and manage businesses and events.
We’re very excited about this session and cannot wait to learn. You can follow Sanmi on Linkedin and Instagram.
So if you’re ready to look beyond revenue and understand what your business numbers are actually telling you, this is one Vendors Connect you don’t want to miss.
