How we met
I met the love of my life in the summer of 2015 in London through our mutual family friend. It was my graduation and my mum had invited a few people (African mothers) including my family friend.
Few days later, we repaid the visit and that was how it all started. I remember grumbling and frowning as I had to go from one end of London to the other. It seemed like too much trouble at the time but looking back now, I’m just grateful I did.
We started out just as friends and I loved that he made me laugh and that he was so goofy. He’d always made his intentions known but I was too busy enjoying the chase and attention. At the time we got talking, I had moved back to Nigeria so we pretty had a long distance online relationship.
Monsur had the persistence like no one I’d met before – it was almost unreal. I was taken aback by his interest in me being that he’d barely known me and that we had barely spent quality time together.
In December of 2016, he flew six hours across the country to Nigeria on a pleasant surprise. The day he came, I was wearing a bubu and was sort of a mess but when I saw him in the car through the passenger window, he was gorgeous with his goofy smile.
My heart skipped and immediately regretted not dressing up more. That visit sealed our fate as I couldn’t be more certain of his good intentions. We soon became inseparable, late nights conversations, daily chats, FaceTime and everything.
I once asked my mom how she knew my father was the one, and I didn’t understood her answer until I met Monsur “You just know. It is something different from anything you have ever felt before. You just know,” she said.
It wasn’t love at first sight for us but it felt right, peaceful, serenely, and like home. Yes, it felt like home and we are just glad to be walking this journey together.
