As someone who has been in the bridal industry for a bit, I’ve seen a fair share of wedding trends come and go, but there are some that are yet to grow on me. Don’t get me wrong, I love creativity and craftsmanship, but I believe there’s a thin line. And unfortunately, some trends have crossed that line. Honestly, this article is a rant about a few wedding trends I don’t want to see in 2025.
The Over-the -Top Bridal Robe
Whatever happened to a simple, elegant robe to sip your morning tea in while getting ready? These days, I’m not even sure if it’s a pre-wedding dress or a bridal robe. Corsets and boning in robes? Really? Call me a party pooper, but I believe that robes should be easy, breezy, and beautiful, not a test run for the main event. I honestly believe that we don’t need to make getting ready this complicated.
Illusion tulle or the wrong illusion?
Where do I even begin with this? It’s supposed to give the illusion of skin, right? But all too often, it gives off the wrong illusion altogether. If the colour match isn’t perfect, it honestly just looks off. Instead of adding that subtle allure, it can end up looking like an afterthought, and not in a good way. Let’s just say, not everything is for everyone.
Corset: Ladies, We Need to Breathe
Can I be honest? They are beautiful and have their place, but sometimes we take it too far. I honestly get it, a snatched waist is great, but at what cost? Wedding days are long, and the last thing you want is to feel like you are suffocating while trying to dance. Let’s allow ourselves to breathe, literally. Corsets are meant to accentuate, not constrict. When done right, they’re stunning. When overdone, they’re just uncomfortable and I promise you, we can tell.
The Under-Dressed Groom at the wedding reception: F for No Effort
Ladies, we put so much effort into our outfits, and then we have the groom in the black shirt and black trouser. I really just want grooms to know that they have options. Gentlemen, we need you to bring your A-game. It’s your day too! A little extra effort never hurts anyone. Match the brides’ energy please!
Over-the-Top Asoebi Styles: But Where Else Can I Wear This?
In Nigerian wedding scenes, the importance of an asoebi cannot be overstated, and I honestly love seeing the creativity that goes into the designs. I think my biggest problem with this has to be the waste it contributes to society. These pieces end up tucked away in the back of the closet, never to see the light of day again. It’s great to be extra, but let’s think about versatility too. The goal is to slay, not to be left with an unwearable souvenir.
Heavy Pearl Beading
Pearls are the epitome of elegance, until they’re not. There’s a trend of beading everything, and while I appreciate the craftsmanship, sometimes it’s just too heavy. Literally. I’ve seen brides weighed down by their own dresses because of excessive pearl beading. The dress should move with you, not against you. A little goes a long way, I promise.
Feathers: Fabulous or Fowl?
Feathers can be fabulous, but they can also be too much. Whether it’s chicken or ostrich feathers, they’re delicate and need to be used carefully. Overdone, feathers can make your outfit look more like a costume than a classy bridal look. Sometimes, less is more.
That’s a wrap on my rant about wedding trends I don’t want to see in 2025. At the end of the day, weddings are about you and what you look and feel good in. While I may have my personal preferences, I always advice my brides to be their most authentic selves, howbeit elegantly. It’s really is all love from your favourite bridal stylist!
