Maldives, one of the most popular honeymoon destinations for Nigerian couples, has declared a 30-day state of emergency ahead of a planned anti-government rally.
According to the BBC, The Maldives president – President Abdulla Yameen has given security forces sweeping powers to arrest suspects. This comes two days before a planned protest by the country’s main opposition – the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Maldives is particularly popular as a honeymoon destination as no pre-arrival visa is required. A thirty day free visa is issued on arrival for all nationalities, provided some conditions are met.
