Few Nigerian musicians command the kind of reverence that King Sunny Ade does. Born Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye on September 22, 1946 in Osogbo, he is widely regarded as the greatest juju musician of all time and one of the most influential African artists ever to grace a stage.
Known as the “King of Juju” and the “Minister of Enjoyment,” KSA built a career spanning over six decades, but it is not only his music that has fascinated Nigerians and fans worldwide. His personal life, particularly his family, has always been a subject of curiosity and admiration.

Who is King Sunny Ade?
King Sunny Ade comes from Yoruba royalty, his mother’s family includes Oba Adesida I, who ruled Akure for 60 years, making KSA an Omoba of the Yoruba people. His father, Samuel Adeniyi Adegeye, was a church organist, which perhaps explains where his son’s musical gift came from.
KSA left grammar school to pursue music, initially playing under highlife legend Moses Olaiya before breaking out on his own. He formed The Green Spots in 1967, later renamed the African Beats, and went on to become the first Nigerian artist to earn a Grammy nomination; twice, in fact, for his albums Synchro System (1983) and Odu (1998).
His international career took off in the early 1980s after signing with Island Records, and he toured extensively across the United States and Europe, bringing Yoruba juju music to global audiences who had never heard anything like it. Today he serves as chairperson of the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria and is estimated to have a net worth of around $55 million, with business interests spanning oil, mining, film production, and a record label focused on African artists.

KSA has long embraced polygamy as part of his Yoruba cultural tradition, and he has never been shy about it. In January 2018, he shared a photo on Instagram of himself surrounded by his wives, captioning it “My Women Crush Wednesday” a post that reignited conversation about his family across Nigerian social media.
What makes his family life particularly remarkable is not simply the number of wives, but how harmoniously they are reported to coexist. By all accounts, the women share a respectful, friendly relationship with each other and with their husband. KSA himself has said on multiple occasions that he loves all of them equally.
