Princess Beatrice’s intimate royal wedding, Meet the Odunsi’s & more wedding news

Last week, Princess Beatrice had an intimate royal wedding, the UK announced that small wedding receptions will be allowed to take place from the 1st of August, the Maldives reopened its borders to international tourists and more. Here’s all the wedding news you may have missed last week.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi had an intimate private wedding ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on Friday, the 17th of July. According to The Royal Family’s Instagram post, the couple celebrated with their closest family including Her Majesty, The Queen, and The Duke of Edinburgh. The couple, who got engaged in Italy last year, initially planned to get married in May 2020 but had to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Princess Beatrice wore a vintage dress by Norman Hartnell and the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, both belonging to Her Majesty The Queen. The tiara was worn by Her Majesty on her wedding day in 1947.

Fashion & marketing consultant, Kessiana Edewor-Thorley and Jide Odunsi had their civil wedding ceremony over the weekend in Lagos, Nigeria. There were a number of updates around wedding and travel restrictions around the world. The UK government announced that small wedding receptions of up to 30 people will be allowed to take place from the 1st of August with very strict guidelines. The guidelines published on Gov.uk state “… from 1 August small wedding receptions will be able to take place- this means sit- down meals for no more than 30 people, subject to COVID-19 Secure guidance.

The Maldives re-opens. Popular honeymoon destination, The Maldives announced that it had reopened its borders to international tourists as of the 15th of July. According to CNN, “Global travelers — US citizens included — will not have to enter into a mandatory quarantine upon arrival at Velana International Airport in the capital, Male. Nor will they need to produce proof they have tested negative for coronavirus.

25 wedding guests test positive for COVID-19. In South Africa, it was reported that at least 25 people who attended a wedding in KwaZuli-Natal tested positive for COVID-19. Premier Sihle Zikalala pleaded with the people of KZN “to know that Covid-19 spreads faster with gatherings. No one is immune…”

According to Reuters, Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, has called for a ban on large gatherings such as weddings in reaction to a rise in the number of people infected with the coronavirus. He said; “We must ban ceremonies and gatherings all over the country, whether it be wakes, weddings or parties.” Reuters reports that shortly after President Rouhani’s televised speech, a police official in Tehran announced the closure of all wedding and mourning venues in the capital until further notice. The total number of diagnosed cases in Iran is over 200 thousand and an advisor to Iran’s Coronavirus task force warned that appropriate measures must be taken.
