Seyi & Layi got married in June. They had their pre-wedding shoot with our vendor – Seun Kilanko Studios. The couple also shared their story with us. Speaking about the shoot, here’s what the photographer had to say;
This is a very lovely and down-to-earth couple. We had a short period of time to shoot their engagement session because of their busy schedule but it was still as if we spent a lot of time because they share genuine love. So, we just practically clicked away and documented the evident love they both share.
We were actually just meeting the couple for the time. Seyi had been an ardent follower of our works and she made sure my wife and I were hired to document her big day. It was an honour to be featured in this couple’s love story.”
How We Met
Ok where do I start from? Believe me, Layi and I have have a very uncommon story. I say it’s uncommon because most relationships that started the way ours did seldom work, it worked for us anyways.
I served in Ibadan 2010 and about that time Layi was working with Diya Fatimilehin & Co. in Ibadan. Despite the fact that we are members of the same church, we never met one on one during that period until I left for Lagos after the service year. In January 2014, I got a BBM request and normally, I do not accept BBM invites if I don’t know the sender but the name looked familiar so I accepted it. I saw a picture of a man and a little girl and I couldn’t place d faces so I thought the Oladiran that I knew used someone else’s picture as his dp (display picture) so I was really flowing with him until he asked the question- ‘Did Tunde tell u about me?’ I was taken aback. ‘What was Tunde supposed to tell me? Are you not Oladiran Oso?’ He said ‘No, I am Layi Oladiran’. I felt embarrassed and stupid at the same time because I thought I was chatting with someone I knew well.
That was how the journey started. The transition was pretty amazing and we often asked ourselves if we were sure we weren’t making a mistake. Thank God we are here today though. It’s not been a walk in the park, but God has bound us together.
What sets him apart? A lot of things. Layi is God fearing. I mean he doesn’t joke with the things of God and that’s most important to me. A man who is God fearing won’t do things without his conscience . Secondly he’s homely, he’s not one that wants to leave home from morning and come back late at night. As a woman, I have always wanted a man that would rather come home to me after work than hanging out till late night. He doesn’t drink or smoke; he’s just a good example of a prefect gentle man. Of course, he isn’t perfect but his good ways surpass his flaws so I’m okay with that.
I pray that the cord that binds us together gets stronger by the day”
– Seyi (Bride)
The highway that led to my marriage to my beloved Oluwaseyi was characterised by several unusual landmarks. A story that I would usually reserve for fiction.
I spent 2 years in Ibadan working with a real estate firm around the same time Oluwaseyi had her National Youth Service. However, we never had any conversation, talk more of a meeting. I had to move to Minna in 2012 after I secured a new job. It was while I was in Minna that a friend- Tunde Oso told me about this ‘special lady’ he felt I should connect with and gave me her BBM pin. I am yet to delete the conversation where I told him that it is not an approach I had used before and I didn’t believe it would lead anywhere. He insisted that I try, and I did.
I was extremely shocked at the friendliness from this ‘stranger’ from the first contact. I got to know few hours later that my surname was identical to the name of her friend, thus I escaped what would probably have been a ‘hostile reception’ or the ‘forming stage’ in the real sense 🙂 … the conversation picked up from there; friendship was born and our united future was conceived.
What made Oluwaseyifunmi stand out? To say Oluwaseyifunmi is very pretty would be a huge understatement. Her beauty is capped by a One Hundred-meter deep dimple. In addition to these qualities, she is often optimistic, open minded, sincere and has a constant desire, a passion for excellence. She also complements me in my areas of weakness……you don’t buy that ‘combo’ in the market…
She stole my heart away, and my heart is still in her pocket…..by the way, I don’t want it back, it’s hers for keeps”
