When craft artist – Jessica James told us about her latest venture into the world of paper flowers, we were excited so we asked her to keep us posted. Less than a month later, she shared pictures from a photoshoot she organised and we couldn’t believe these lovely flowers were made out of paper. So we had to ask questions.
What’s the story behind these fantastic paper flowers? What made you start making them?
Naturally I’m good with my hands, I’m always of looking for new things to do. So I stumbled upon beautiful pictures of wedding backdrops and bouquets, then I thought it would be pretty expensive to achieve those looks using fresh flowers. I started doing some research and experimenting until I started seeing results I wanted. So I can literally say my inspiration for paper flower making came from desiring a solution for cheaper ways of getting beautiful results and also because I love to make pretty things.
Why should anyone choose paper flowers over fresh flowers? What are the benefits?
There are so many benefits of choosing paper flowers over real/fresh flowers; they are cheaper, more versatile. You can easily customize your favourite flower to any color or size you want. You can literally customize your flowers to match your preferred color scheme.
Also, if they are protected from moisture and handled fairly carefully, paper flowers will last for years, though the color may fade if exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods. Paper flowers are a beautiful and lasting option for bridal parties, and they can double as your bridesmaid gifts. They can also be used to build;
- Bridal bouquets for weddings
- Backdrops for events and photoshoots
- Decor for home, nursery, workspaces, centerpieces
- Wedding accessories like flower crowns, head pieces, corsages, lapel pins
- Cake decor, etc
The list is endless, paper flowers create opportunities to be creative with your event and also helps create unique results.
